Icom introduces a handheld radio that is capable of working on both the new narrowband frequencies as well as existing analogue frequencies. The IC-F1000D has been referred to as a "future proof" model by NZ Logger magazine and will allow users to continue with their current radio use or go digital when necessary without any need for further hardware investment.

The latest handheld radio from Icom NZ is the smallest Icom digital radio but don't let its compact size disguise the fact that it is a sophisticated business radio offering a multitude of features. The IC-F1000D provides intelligent emergency functions and loud audio in a slim waterproof chassis and with 5Watts of power. The IC-F1000D has a compact 52.2×111.8×30.3mm body and weighs only 260g (with BP-280 battery pack and belt clip).

Available in both VHF (IC-F1000D) and UHF (IC-F2000D – coming soon), Icom's new handheld series can be programmed for Type-D single-site trunking, conventional digital and analogue communication. Digital features include individual/group calls and 15-bit digital voice encryption.

The new longer lasting battery that is supplied with the radio can last up to 18.5 hours and be charged in as little as 3.5 hours. Like other models in the IC-F1000 range, the slim body features a very rugged construction that is IP67 rated (waterproof to a depth of one meter for 30 minutes), as well as being impervious to dust, sand and mud. The radio is also tested to MIL-STD 810 specifications and is able to withstand harsh use.

Among the features of the IC-F1000D are three emergency related functions: motion detection, man down and lone worker functions. If one of these functions are activated, the transceiver automatically enters an emergency phase and starts counting down to send an emergency signal. The built-in motion sensor detects its position and states motion and non-motion.

The optional GPS speaker-microphone can also provide GPS position data, which can be attached to a voice or data transmission, such as responding to a GPS request status call. The IC-F1000D also benefits from Icom NZ's unique 5 year warranty, the same as all other land mobiles by Icom.

The IC-F1000D is ideal for a diverse customer base including those in the construction, manufacturing, facilities, security, retail and the hospitality & events markets. Icom's new radio is now available from authorised Icom NZ Dealers. For more information about this product and to download the brochure, please visit the IC-F1000D/F2000D series product page.
